Details to comeBefore You Wander
This ground was Brooklyn
The Pearl stands on land that was once Brooklyn — a vibrant, self-sustaining Black community of families, businesses, schools and places of worship. During the 1960s and ’70s, Charlotte’s first wave of urban renewal displaced thousands of its residents. Today the district honors that legacy through inclusive design, community partnerships and the Purposeful Walk — a self-guided walking tour through The Pearl, a living tribute to the voices and stories of Brooklyn’s past. Two nearby museums carry the story further, and our History & Culture event series keeps a Brooklyn tie-in at every event.
